Free, Filing Taxes Online- Help Filing Taxes

If you are new to filing your taxes, or if you are just tired of the stress of it all, then I may have an answer.

Some people like to go to get their taxes done by a professional-which in some cases may be necessary. Most of the time though, it really can be done without much hassle, and very very little cost.

I am only 29, and have now been filing my own taxes (with the help of TacACT.com) for the past 10 years. I actually started using TaxACT by telephone. I called the phone number that they had at the time, and did everything by simply pushing numbers on the phone. It was very simple and very fast.

TaxACT now of course has their FREE online tax filing service. Everything is set up in a very easy to use way. The program walks you right through all of the steps. They also have a Q&A (Question and Answer) link available at all times while using the service so that if you are confused about any of it- they will give you the answer right then. They also have the "Free Tax Service and Support Center" tab at the top of the page which answers most any question you would have.

Taxes shouldn't scare you- they are actually quite simple, especially when you have all of the information right at your fingertips.

If you opt to go to one of the tax filing places, just be prepared to give away a nice big chunk of YOUR money.

There is always going the "long form" option also- which I have never personally done, and never will. It is worth doing it online with TaxACT in my opinion.

It is easy, and it is free to file. The only cost to you is to have it directly deposited into your account. I believe last year (2008) the cost was $14.95.

If you ask me, the little bit of work that it takes to do it myself is well worth saving the hundred to hundreds of dollars that the tax people take from my money. I would at no other time of the year, just hand someone a hundred dollar bill (or more) to do something that I can do myself. Especially, like I said before, with all of the help that is available on the TaxACT website itself.

With TaxACT, you can file both your State and Federal tax returns.

The program walks you through filing your federal first. The reason I love this service so much is because you really can't go wrong with it. When you have gone through all of the steps to file your return, it will take you through a series of "alerts." These alerts go back through all of the information that you have already entered, and "double checks" your entries.

If it finds anything that is not making sense, or not matching up- it will tell you.

I have made at least one mistake every year, and the program found it within seconds. Once it tells you where the mistake is, you just go back to that section of the program, and look to see why it is alerting you. I have been able to correct every problem, or error rather, on my own. I am definitely not a tax guru or anything of the sort. I have been doing this since I was 19 years old- and yes, it is that simple.

Once you have completed your federal return, it then walks you through your State return as well, the same way.

Any tax credits, or deductions that you would normally take, you can also take with this service. Each step that you go through will tell you what credit, or what deduction it is offering. If you are not sure as to whether or not you qualify, there is a breakdown right there of "who" qualifies, or what it takes to qualify. All you have to do is read it, and you will know if you qualify. IF! You still aren't sure, or if there is a maybe lingering in your head- there is so much information available on the internet- just google it. You will find your answer.

And if you are wondering- yes you can claim Head of Household and get your Child Tax Credit- it is all there.

Once you go through this process, and you see how easy it is, you will find that there are many people out there that don't have the confidence to do their own taxes.

I make money every year now doing taxes for co-workers and friends. I really feel like I am ripping them off sometimes because it is really so simple.
