How To Scrunch Hair ...Make Straight Hair Curly, Make Thin Hair "Look" Thick!
How to Scrunch Hair
The question asked by many is "How do you make curly hair?" Especially if your hair is naturally straight. Can it be done? ABSOLUTELY.
Make straight hair curly........It is a fairly easy thing to do. Let me start off by saying that you really need to enjoy taking time on your hair. If you don't have some patience, forget it.
It is not all that time consuming, and well worth doing, in my opinion. I believe bigger is better, and curly hair is beautiful. Straight hair has just never "tickled my fancy."

Scrunch Hair.....
Let's get started. Of course, it is best to wash your hair first. Don't even try to scrunch dry hair. You will end up with one big fat frizz ball. After washing and conditioning your hair, put it up in a towel for just a few minutes. Let the excess water get off there.
Comb or pick through your hair so that there are no tangles.
Pick your favorite volumizing mousse. One of my favorites is Treseme Extra Hold Curl Enhancing Mousse. I think that this mousse makes your curls tighter, and shinier.
A palm full of mousse should do it. Make sure you evenly coat hair with the mousse.

How To Scrunch Hair Overnight!
♥If you want REALLY tight waves and or curls that are going to hold like no one's business, after you clip your hair, leave it like this all night. Follow all steps the same way, except you will spray your wet, clipped hair with some hair spray before you lie down.
This really does make for some absolutely beautiful, shiny curls in the morning.
You will still blow-dry in the morning, as your hair will still be wet.ξ
Gel Spray Is Your Next Step...Gel to Hold
Using a spray gel to scrunch your hair is the next step, and definitely NOT a step to skip! The gel will hold the curls tighter. The reason I say to use a Spray gel is very important.
Using gel from a bottle that you try to evenly distribute yourself, in my opinion, just doesn't work. The gel will end up heavier in certain areas than others. This will weigh your hair down, causing the curls to "droop." Some may disagree with me on this, and that's fine. I say spray gel, but if your favorite gel in the whole world is NOT spray gel, then just use what you know works best for you.
The spray gel will evenly distribute on its own, as long as you move the bottle all around as you are spraying.
My favorite spray gel is "Tresemme 24 Hour Body Sculpting Spray Gel".
I have tried many, including very pricey brands. This one is by far, my favorite.
Spray evenly all over hair, on top of the mousse you have applied already.
Flip your head upside down so that your hair is right in front of your face. Take the towel you had on your head when you got out of the shower, and use it to scrunch up your hair. Using the towel is one of the best things you can do. It will dry up any excess water and product, at the same time as working the product well into your hair.
Continue doing this until you see your hair curling up on its own.
Flip your head back over.
This next tip is one that I do, BUT you can skip it if you don't have enough time. Take your hair and bunch it up into a big mess on the top of your head. Kind of put it in a "wet messy bun" and use a large hair clip to pin the hair together against your head. Spray with a little more spray gel, and wait 15-30 minutes. The longer you wait, the tighter your curls will hold. This will set your hair.
As I said, you can totally skip this part, but if I am getting ready for a night on the town, and have already planned some time out for getting ready, then I just do my make-up while I'm waiting. Simple!
Scrunching Hair Spray....Not What You Would Think!
Take your hair down from your clip, or if you didn't clip, then just do after the last step. Flip your hair back over again so that it is in front of your face. Spray evenly all over your hair, my ONLY recommended hair spray. It is called "Professional by Nature's Therapy Freezing Hair Spray." (You can read about it here.) However, if you use a hairspray that you just already know works best on your hair, then use it. Just don't get stuck in a rut using the same product over and over, and never even trying something else. I have been guilty of this, and have found better products by just giving it a try.
After you spray your hair evenly, again take the towel and scrunch your hair up to tighten back up. After scrunching, spray lightly and evenly one more time. Your hair may feel a bit hard, don't be scared. It will relax after you have dried it, leaving you with nice tight waves and curls.
Even though this is called a "freezing" hair spray, it will NOT freeze your hair stiff, even though it may feel like it for a minute. Trust me. I love this stuff.
I have thinning hair, and it works even for me. Everyone thinks that I have really thick hair, and I most definitely don't.
◊Next important part of scrunching your hair really good; Blow-dryer with a diffuser.
Diffuser....Scrunching Must!
Begin by once again, flipping head over with hair in front of your face. Have your hair spray handy. Begin blow-drying your hair using the diffuser. Simply cradle a section of your hair at a time with the diffuser. Hold each section on the diffuser for about a minute at a time, spraying lightly with your hair spray while drying. Do this until all hair is completely dry.
Spray again after your hair is dried, and then style as you would like!
Your straight hair should now be all scrunched up and curly. In my opinion, a girl with big curly hair will take the show.
Make straight hair curly.......get all of the attention.
Hope this answered your question....How to Scrunch Your Hair?
Make Wavy Hair
ξ If you don't want "scrunched", but wavy hair rather - All of the tips in this article are still good ones. I would do without the hair gel. You will still follow all steps. You just aren't going to go for the tighter scrunched look. After washing and drying your hair(leaving just slightly damp), you can twist hair up and clamp it in the back with a hair clip. Let the hair dry while it is in the clamp. When you take it down, still blow-dry with a diffuser, and put a finishing spray on it. This will hold the natural waves that you have created.

Sounds great! My hair is wavy and often tends to get frizzy which is not such fun.... When I let my hair dry naturally it can get curly. For a while I blew dried it straight as this was the "fashion" but I do like the curls best too...
Thank-You for the comment Marian! Yes- I think curls are the way to go- on just about anyone. People with nice straight hair (in my opinion) usually look even better with it all scrunched up! :)
Me too will try it...after growing long hair
Great Advice! I have scrunched my hair for about 2 years now? It always ends up falling out In Just ONE HOUR! Plus, I Dont blow dry it! So, i bet your way is alot better! Hopefully it works! My hair doesnt like to be curly! Lol
Great Hub! I will have to try it :)
OK I have tried to scrunch my hair before I hope this works
I never scrunch my hair and have been waiting for a detailed way to do it. Thankyou so much i will try it!!! :)
I have super straight hair. I've tried all the gels, hairsprays, and mousse products in the world, but nothing works like the steps in this blog! It made my hair feel new!!!! Thank you!!!
I am not a young spring chicken anymore and I have to say that my hair is not full in body as it use to be. On a hot day, I look like I have a bunch of wet noodles on my head. I have tried so many hairsprays and have been disappointed each and every time. They hold for a little while and then, there go those noodles again. The Shielo Volume Hairspray has been a blessing to me, especially when I have to go our to some gathering and will be out for a while. This amazing product is long lasting and what's even better your hair is not left feeling stiff. You know that a lot of these hairsprays out there these days don't last long and leave your hair feeling sticky and stiff. Who wants that? It also keeps those nasty frizzies at bay.
I can't afford to get my hair done for winter formal! So I am gonna try this hope it works! :)
soo trying this soon!
Will it do the same without the diffuser??
You can definitely still scrunch without the diffuser. Just scrunch the hair up in your hand and blow dry while you use your hand to scrunch it while you blow dry it. The diffuser helps (I think) because you can spray your hair while you blow dry it as your hair is sitting on the diffuser, just makes it a little easier. Thanks!
